Afrika

Afrika is a catalyst that condenses the full force of the painter’s message. It is a cry of despair against the injustices of the world and a wake-up call for society. He returns to the canvas again and again to portray the torn faces of those who suffer the consequences of droughts, famines, war, rape, forced exodus and the destruction left in the wake of the capitalist greed that has turned an entire continent into nothing more than its own personal game board.

Rando’s humanistic conscience leads him to rescue these characters from oblivion. He challenges us to look into the eyes of the hungry children who cry in desperation, of the mothers who fight for survival. He invites us to contemplate, reverently, reminding us that however far we are from each other, however different our experiences may be; we are all part of the same human race.

Afrika is one of the cycles which the painter calls Passions or Human Sufferings. In them, there is always space for HOPE. Hope in the awareness, solidarity and compassion of the viewer.

Afrika... where others die, I paint.
Afrika... where every human right is violated, I wage a war in my soul.
Are men human?
